The south London borough's 650 Junior StreetLeaders, aged six to 16, work to improve the local environment. Members of the team attended the launch of Talking CCTV last week dressed as litter, to promote the technology and to highlight the role young people can play in promoting appropriate behaviour.
Jeff Hook, Southwark Council's executive member for community safety, said: "The system will empower local people to report suspicious activity and enable CCTV operators to put out messages challenging unacceptable behaviour."
Some of the young people will man the control room when the technology launches in May, and will publicly reprimand those dropping litter and committing other antisocial behaviour.
