The myfife card will launch in August and has several functions, including acting as a proof of age card and travel pass. It also entitles young people to discounts at leisure facilities and in town centre shops.

But police in Glenrothes plan to get the discount part of the card deactivated for a period of time if the young cardholder misbehaves. A committee of young people, aided by police and youth workers, will decide the length of the punishment.

The card will be made available to young people aged between 12 and 26 in Fife. The young person's date of birth and what they are entitled to will be stored on a chip in the card.
