ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR: Scotland tackles community blight

Proposals in the consultation paper, Putting Our Communities First: A Strategy for Tackling Antisocial Behaviour, include the introduction of electronic tagging for offenders under 16 and orders that would hold parents responsible for their children's actions.

Margaret Curran, minister for communities at the Scottish Parliament, published the consultation on 26 July, saying: "Antisocial behaviour will not be ignored or tolerated."

Separately, Home Secretary David Blunkett's antisocial behaviour bill for England and Wales cleared the House of Commons on 24 June after its third reading. It will now go before the House of Lords.

Consultation on the Scottish bill will close on 11 September.
