The statistics, gained using the Freedom of Information Act, show that at least 809 zones were set up and 14,375 people moved on in the period.
Groups working with young people said that the vast majority of these are likely to be under the age of 25, although the power to move people on under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 applies to all ages.
The Act gave police the power to set up dispersal zones, with the agreement of the local authority. Within these zones, between 9pm and 6am, they can disperse groups of people who are causing concern, and escort anyone under the age of 16 back to their home.
