Antisocial behaviour: Government plans community powers

If complaints reach a certain level, authorities will be legally obliged to take action.

The proposals are contained in a "Respect" Action Plan, which was due to be published yesterday (10 January). Other measures include setting up a National Parenting Academy, where parenting professionals and others who work with families, including youth workers, could study to improve practice.

The Home Office said the plan is the next step in the drive against antisocial behaviour, and is about "nipping problems in the bud". Legislation is expected shortly, although there will not be a stand-alone bill.
