Anti-social behaviour: Parent-to-parent support praised

Encouraging parents to support each other is likely to be more effective than parenting classes at tackling anti-social behaviour, according to researchers behind a new study for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The study, released this week, looked at what made some parents indisadvantaged areas in the west of Scotland more successful atcontrolling their children's behaviour.

The researchers found that the parents used a range of sophisticatedstrategies.

Peter Seaman, who co-authored the research report, said: "Anti-socialbehaviour could be reduced by developing social networks between localparents."
