Anti-gang work in Glasgow hotspots

Youth Justice Youth Work
A youth service aimed at encouraging young people to keep away from gang-related problems launched in south-west Glasgow last month.

Youthpoint Glasgow will work with 11- to 21-year-olds in crime hotspots identified by Strathclyde Police and local housing associations.

The service will aim to get young people involved in their communities, develop skills and offer support to those living in areas of social deprivation.

The service, which is run by Scottish children's charity Aberlour, will combine initiatives such as football competitions with members from local gangs and youth groups, alongside personal support.

Graham McPhie, Aberlour's assistant regional director, said: "We always aim to ensure the achievements made by young people get the recognition they deserve."
