3 mins read

In the Vue cinema in London's Leicester Square last Monday evening (8 May), Chancellor Gordon Brown joined young people in whooping with his hands in the air, imitating a seal and performing a drum roll on his knees.

Brown was attending the launch of v, the charity formed to create one million young volunteers by 2010, for which he has pledged 100m (YPN, 10-16 May, p2).

The Government has guaranteed 50m and pledged a further 50m if private companies contribute an equal amount, which would raise a total of 150m.

Unlock potential
