Sport and young people might be in the spotlight right now, driven by preparations for the 2012 Olympics, but two organisations want to make sure arts-based youth work doesn't miss out. London Youth, which reaches about 75,000 young people through youth groups and projects under its umbrella, is producing a three-year arts strategy for its members. And Arts Council England recently launched a strategy for young offenders and those at risk of offending.

Key to development

London Youth's strategy will use existing best practice to try to develop creative and cultural needs and recognise the role arts can play in terms of personal and professional development, according to Tracie Trimmer, director, projects and interventions, at London Youth.
