Vocational training is popular with young people. But there are not enough opportunities to meet demand and selling the benefits of Apprenticeships to businesses is proving a challenge, reports Ellie Guttridge.

Plans to make it compulsory for young people to stay in education and training until the age of 18 could trigger increased demand for Apprenticeships. But the work placements that form part of the courses are currently in short supply.

Earlier this month young people took to the streets to raise their concerns (YPN, 13-19 June, p6). South Central Connexions organised demonstrations in Portsmouth, Southampton, Basingstoke, Winchester and Ringwood to highlight the need for more support from business.
