Analysis: Government - A Sure Start for teens and families

If the Labour Party was asked to choose its most successful policy on children and young people, it would be little surprise if it named Sure Start.

The multi-agency service, which mainly supports children aged under six and their parents, has been something of a runaway success. A recently issued independent evaluation of the scheme had little but praise for the programme - describing its progress as "good" and naming multi-agency working as the main area for improvement.

Youth minister Margaret Hodge is also a fan. At YPN's recent Joining Up conference she regaled to the audience, made up of people working with 11- to 25-year-olds, a list of Sure Start's achievements while making the case for children's trusts.
