Allen Lane Foundation

What is it? The Allen Lane Foundation is a charitable trust that makes grants to small not-for-profit organisations working to benefit groups of people who are marginalised by UK society. These organisations need not be registered charities, as long as the work they carry out is charitable.

How much is on offer? One-off grants range from £500 to £15,000, while annual grants range from about £500 to £5,000 for a maximum of three years.

What will it fund? Priority groups include asylum-seekers and refugees, gypsies and Travellers, black and minority ethnic communities, offenders, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, as well as people experiencing mental health problems. Examples of the type of activities the foundation funds include provision of advice, advocacy and mentoring.

Who can apply? Local organisations with an income of less than £100,000 a year can apply. Organisations who work across the UK will be eligible if they have an income of less than around £250,000 a year. Grant beneficiaries must not live solely in London.
