Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming tabled an early day motion inParliament claiming babies are being taken into care because they areeasy to get adopted. But the Department for Education and Skills and theBritish Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) say the claim is"nonsense".
A spokesman for DfES said: "The law is clear - children should live withtheir parents wherever possible and, when necessary, families should begiven extra support to help keep them together."
BAAF's chief executive David Holmes said: "It is a very serious decisionto take a child into care and the decision is carefullyscrutinised."
