Adoption: Access to Information and Intermediary Services Practice Guidance

1 min read Social Care
Guidance offers advice to adoption workers on access to information, intermediary services and cross-border issues.

- Does the Children and Young Persons Bill cover adoption issues?

It applies to children being fostered or placed in residential care. But the Action on Access coalition has been using debates on the Bill to lobby for improvements to post-adoption services. The Department for Children, Schools and Families has just issued non-statutory practice guidance on access to information and intermediary services under the Adoption and Children Act 2002.

- Information on what?

The guidance is written for the adoption workers in England who are supporting adopted people. It includes advice on birth-record counselling, information management and disclosure, access to information from adoption agency records, intermediary services for adopted adults and their birth relatives, and cross-border issues.
