Accreditation need for quality standard

1 min read Youth Work
London Youth wants accreditation for its 100,000 youth club quality standard, following the end of its pilot phase.

The organisation signed up 35 youth clubs and projects in the capital to pilot its quality-assurance scheme in the first half of this year. The aim was to improve standards for young people attending clubs.

London Youth has just completed the evaluation of the project, and hopes to open it up to all its members later this year.

Gary Hartin, head of performance improvement at London Youth, said most participants felt it would be more attractive if the scheme was accredited by a recognised body. "That's the nut we have to crack," he said. "We're approaching some accrediting bodies."

He said some voluntary service councils in London were interested in taking on the scheme. "One has said it's keen to roll out the quality mark with its members," he said. "It could be that we retain ownership and they get the support, but it's early days yet."
