A step back in time Pupils get a taste of a medieval life

Phoebe Lampitt and Alyshea Hurley attempt a spot of hand-to-hand combat as part of a history lesson at the University of Wales in Newport.

More than 60 primary schoolchildren attended the event, which was organised by the university and staff from Comestown Medieval Village. The children were taken back in time and given a selection of weapons to get to grips with, including pikestaffs, longbows and swords. Ten-year-old Sam Rees said: "It was great seeing how people lived in those days - it was really tough back then."
