
In her spare time, Kathy Evans, the new head of Children England, likes to conduct wedding ceremonies for friends as part of her role as a registered and qualified humanist "celebrant".
As pastimes go, it is an unusual one, particularly for someone at the cutting edge of children and young people's policy making - she has held senior positions at children's charities for more than a decade. But, as Evans - who took over from Maggie Jones in April after three years as deputy chief executive - explains, it is a good antidote to the stresses and strains of the day job.
