A day in the life of a parent support worker

Young victims of sexual exploitation get help from professionals but parents have to cope with the day-to-day fallout. Eileen Fursland accompanies a worker who provides parents with vital support.

Elizabeth Edwards* is an independent parent support worker with Pace (Parents Against Child Sexual Exploitation). Her role is to support the parents and families of children and young people who are being sexually exploited. She works as part of a multi-agency team called Engage, which tackles child sexual exploitation (CSE) across a large part of Lancashire covering Blackburn, Darwen and the Pennines. The team's primary aim is to extricate young people from the control of sexual offenders who groom, brainwash and often intimidate them.

Wherever possible the team also works to bring about successful prosecutions.
