10m boost for overseas exploits

Youth Work
A 10m scheme to get young people volunteering abroad has been launched with government backing.

Platform2 offers 18- to 25-year-olds from less advantaged backgrounds the opportunity to live, work and learn about life in poorer countries. The scheme will enable 2,500 young people to volunteer in developing countries and raise awareness of development issues in the UK over the next three years.

The programme is backed by the Department for International Development and will be run in partnership with Christian Aid, Islamic Relief and BUNAC.

But charity CSV said young volunteers were needed in the UK as much as abroad.
