10 Years of Children & Young People Now

5 mins read
Cast your mind back to early September 2007. The newly established Department for Children, Schools and Families projects a proud rainbow logo; Kanye West is at number one with Stronger; Ed Balls has pranced his way up to Children's Secretary in Gordon Brown's government; and, most significant of all, Children & Young People Now is born.

The first edition was published on the fifth day of that month. Our 10th birthday provides an opportunity to reflect on an eventful decade and look back at how we covered some of the major developments as they unfolded: the global financial crisis and ensuing era of austerity imposed on public services; changes in governments and policies, and numerous ministerial reshuffles; and high-profile national stories including the tragedy of 17-month-old Peter Connelly and the demise of Kids Company.

The publication was created by the coming together of two predecessor titles, Children Now (serving professionals working with children from birth to 12); and Young People Now, for the youth work profession and young people's services. CYP Now remains today a multi-platform source of information, guidance and insight, in print, digital, and through our live events.
