Youth work must deliver what teens want

Reform and investment over the past 10 years mean that young people now have access to more and better activities than ever before.

We know that positive activities help young people develop as individuals, as team members and learn vital skills which will help them to achieve success. But poverty and deprivation still blight some families and communities.

That is why, over the next three years, the government is investing £202m of capital funding through the Myplace programme to ensure that world-class facilities are available to young people in every community, as well as funding for positive activities.

In 2009, the government's focus will be on how it can continue to improve opportunities for all young people. Delivering what young people want is going to be critical as we move forward.
