Sharon Shoesmith must be heard

The very name "Sharon Shoesmith" probably still induces feelings of contempt among many members of the public.

The lynch-mob rage whipped up by The Sun newspaper towards her two years ago still blinds many from being able to assess the case of Peter Connelly's murder with any shred of rationality.

Shoesmith deserves to be listened to. But this is not about pity. There is a wider public interest in the profound issues she raises, in particular on public accountability and multi-agency work with children and families. Indeed, for society's sake, it is imperative that she is listened to.
