Such flexibility is a key strength of the children’s services sector and are qualities that will need to be called upon once again as the country copes with the cost-of-living crisis over the coming year. It will be doing so against a backdrop of tax rises and spending cuts following the Chancellor’s recent autumn statement. But while Jeremy Hunt protected state pensions and the NHS budget, there were no such assurances for departments supporting children and young people.
