Age is no bar to annoying others

2 mins read Detached youth work
Hardly a day goes by without another antisocial behaviour story appearing in the press. Usually it's young people who are being singled out for causing a nuisance to someone, somewhere.

But not this time. This time the accused are definitely not the usual suspects. None of them wears a hoodie. They don't binge drink. And, as far I know, the only drugs that members of this group take are for their rheumatoid arthritis.

The oldest member of the group is 96-year-old Rose Anderson. Every day she is joined by six friends who meet up for a tea-time chat on the benches just outside their sheltered accommodation.

But all is not well. Their daily get-togethers are now under threat because of claims by other residents that they are causing a nuisance.

Broomleigh Housing Association, which owns the flats in Mottingham, south London, says it has no choice but to take action after receiving a stream of complaints over the past couple of years as well as several unsuccessful attempts at mediation.
