1 min read Youth Work
A youth consultant has admitted grooming a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Appearing via videolink from Wandsworth Prison at a hearing at Southwark Crown Court, 56-year-old Simon Beard admitted attempting to cause or incite the teenager to engage in a sexual activity in April. He admitted a further charge of attempting to cause the girl to watch a sexual act.

A pre-sentence report has been ordered and Beard will be sentenced at a hearing scheduled for 6 August.

Beard had been employed by the National Youth Agency as a development officer until last September and had worked for the organisation as a consultant from last November.

His responsibilities at the NYA included running a two-day programme advising youth workers on counselling young people about sexual relationships.
