Further details of how funding for activities and facilities for young people is to be divided up have been announced by the government.

In the summer the Department for Children, Schools and Families allocated 679 million pounds to support services for young people over the next three years.

It has now announced that 222 million pounds of this will go into the Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) scheme.

The 10 year youth strategy, Aiming High for Young People, said PAYP would receive 139.5 million over three years. But the government has now allocated an extra 6.5 million to support anti-gun and gang crime work in 2008/09, as well as extra funding for 2009-2011.

Details of how 420 million pounds of the youth funding are to be distributed to local authorities are expected to be announced today.
