Young people voice concern about future prospects in Birmingham

A large proportion of young people in Birmingham believe they will have to leave the city in order to build a future, a youth education event has revealed.

Concerns about rising youth unemployment in the city were raised by delegates at an event organised by youth education charity Envision, attended by more than 200 young people.

A poll taken at the event found that 86 per cent of delegates said they were proud to be from Birmingham.

However 63 per cent of young people could not see themselves building a future in the city and 64 per cent feel that Birmingham is not doing enough to tackle youth unemployment.

Envision Birmingham’s regional manager Cameron Nimmo said: "As adults we all have a responsibility to respond to the concerns raised by the young people.
