Young people to visit developing economies

1 min read Education Youth Work
Young people leaving school or college are to get the opportunity to visit developing economies in a government-led scheme.

Each year the Global Fellowship programme will give 100 young people leaving education at age 18 or 19 the chance to spend six weeks visiting nations such as Brazil, China and India.

When they return the intention is for them to form a network of young people who can work with employers to consider the challenges of global economic development.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families is funding the £1.4m-a-year scheme. It is open to young people from England, with the first group due to leave this summer.

On their return they will have the chance to meet the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Children's Secretary Ed Balls.
