Young people to inspect youth services in multi-million pilot

Youth Work
More than a thousand young people from disadvantaged areas in England will be trained to inspect youth services under a four and a half million pound government pilot.

The government is looking for a voluntary sector organisation to work with local authorities and government offices to develop and run the Young Inspector project. The project will be piloted in up to 36 local authorities with around 30 young people taking part in each area.

The young people will come up with their own standards to measure services such as leisure activities and careers advice. The pilot will run from April 2009 to March 2011.

Children's minister Beverley Hughes said:  "This scheme empowers young people to help their communities by making sure that services respond to what young people need."

The deadline for applying to run the pilots is 23 January 2009.
