The research, by youth campaign #iwill, finds that "negative stereotypes persist” among older generations, who wrongly believe young people are “naive, entitled and lazy”.

This is despite young people taking leadership roles advocating for issues such as tackling climate change and equality and being more likely to volunteer and promote causes than older people, according to the research published in Can You See Us?, a project backed by  charities UK Youth and Volunteering Matters.

A factor in these misconceptions is that issues around the environment and human rights "often fail to resonate with older generations”, the charity claims.

This research involved gathering opinions from more than 1,000 people each year between 2022 and 2024.
