Young people encouraged to make a difference for Global Youth Service Day

Young people descended on the capital this week, ready to help anyone in need of advice, tube maps or even mobile phone chargers to raise awareness of Global Youth Service Day.

In an attempt to rally support for the annual event, youth volunteering charity V gathered young people to help fellow citizens in Carnaby Street.

The global event, which runs from 15 to 17 April, encourages young people across the world to improve their communities. It is the first time the event has been launched in the UK.

Children’s minister Tim Loughton said: "Global Youth Service Day is a unique opportunity for young people in England to be part of a global community of people who are doing something positive for their neighbourhoods. I’m proud that we are joining more than 100 countries to support and celebrate young people taking action."
