Young Londoners take concerns over cuts to Boris Johnson

1 min read Youth Work
Youth club closures in London topped the agenda at a question-and-answer session between young people and London mayor Boris Johnson this week.

At the Young Londoners – Have Your Say event at Enfield County Upper School, which also included a panel of youth sector experts, 10 young people from Haringey were among those to voice their concern about closures in their area.

Nick Wilkie, chief executive of London Youth and one of the panellists, said: "One of the main themes to emerge was youth club closures. There is a lot of concern among young people and in particular those that attended from Haringey. They are very worried."

Wilkie added that Johnson told those who attended that he shared their concerns. However, Wilkie added: "But compared to town hall and Whitehall powers there is little that he can realistically do."

Among other panellists were: Pamela Chesters, the mayoral adviser on health and youth opportunities; Councillor Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council's cabinet member for young people, culture, leisure, sports and the Olympics; and youth advocate Sabian Muhammad.
