The changes (details of which can be viewed on the YJB’s website), were made due to a recent decrease in demand for custody that resulted in the decommissioning of a number of young offenders institutions.
In order to review the courts allocated to each establishment, the YJB used historical data to calculate the average number of young people remanded and sentenced at each court.
Explaining the need for a review, a YJB spokeswoman said: "A sustained and welcome reduction in demand for custody has led to a programme of decommissioning within the YOI estate. Upon completion of a decommissioning exercise, court catchments are revised to ensure that they accurately reflect the reconfigured secure estate."
