Whitfield to step down as chief executive of Achieving for Children

The chief executive of an organisation that runs children's services across three local authority areas is to retire, it has been announced.

Nick Whitfield, who has led social enterprise Achieving for Children (AfC) since it was established in April 2014 to run children's services in the neighbouring London boroughs of Kingston and Richmond, will step down later this year, the organisation said.

Last year AfC extended to a third local authority area after The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council agreed to pay a £750,000 fee to hand over responsibility for its children's services. It has plans to expand to a total of five council areas by 2022.

Whitfield said: "Creating AfC has been the biggest professional privilege of my life. It was always my intention to step down this year, leaving the organisation in capable and experienced hands for the future.
