West Midlands hosts care-experienced football tournament

Warwickshire Legends were victorious in the annual West Midlands Care Leavers Championship, which brought together care-experienced football players from local authorities in the region.

Warwickshire Legends was formed in 2019, with most team members arriving in Warwickshire as unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

The team also won last year's tournament.

The championship was created by Warwickshire Council as a way to use sport to bring communities together and allow young people to be "happy, healthy and heard".

Warwickshire county councillor Sue Markham said: “We’re so proud of our young players and their deserved win. Football has proven to be an asset; many of our participants, who arrived as unaccompanied asylum-seeking children without their families, have endured challenging experiences. Engaging in sports and uniting as their own football family to represent Warwickshire brings about a significant positive impact for them.
