
The county hosted more than 30 events for Refugee Week 2024.
The celebrations included a youth art competition. Their artworks, reflecting the theme "Our Home," were displayed in libraries across Warwickshire, including Atherstone, Rugby, Nuneaton, Leamington, and Wellesbourne, throughout Refugee Week (17 - 23 June).
Other events included a fashion show celebrating traditional clothing from around the world and poetry by local school children, alongside a live Ukrainian band.
Four refugee children also had the chance to collaborate with local artist Libby Esler on a dress modelled on the runway.
According to Department for Education figures, there were 7,290 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children currently looked-after by councils in England in March 2023. This is a 42% increase on pre-pandemic levels.
