A vote on the issue has resulted in 44 assembly members from all parties supporting the move to bring the voting age down to 16.
The Votes at 16 Coalition, which is made up of youth and democracy organisations, welcomed the move.
The Welsh government doesn't have the power to lower the voting age itself, but the coalition says the overwhelming support for the change is a clear demand that Westminster must acknowledge.
Ben Rawlings, a spokesman for the coalition, said: "We sent a clear message to Cardiff Bay, and the assembly has sent one straight to Westminster. Wales is serious about engaging young people, and serious about giving 16 and 17 year olds a real say."
