Wales spending twice as much as England on youth services, YMCA finds

While in Wales's real term spending on youth services per head is £91, this figure drops to just £45 in England.

Researchers found that the lowest regional annual spending in Wales, of £85 in North Wales, still exceeds the highest local spending in England, of £78 in central London.

The research has been published in a YMCA report that found there has been real terms decline of 73 per cent in funding for England’s youth services in just over a decade.

In England in 2010/11 children and young people benefited from a spending per head of £182, based on total funding of £1.46bn.
