The survey of 13- to 17-year-olds found three in five victims of violence and two thirds of perpetrators of violent crime attended youth clubs.

Meanwhile, the proportion is halved to three in ten among young people without any direct experience of violent crime, according to the research by the charity Youth Endowment Fund.

While most youth clubs are open to all children, they are especially effective at engaging young people who are more vulnerable to violence, states the report, 'Who has access to positive activities, youth clubs and trusted adults?'.

“This includes teenage children who have been excluded from school, are supported by social services, have special educational needs or report involvement in gangs”.
