Universities and colleges awarded for care leaver support

Four universities and colleges have been handed a national award for the support they offer to students with care experience.

The University of Sunderland, University of York, Liverpool John Moores University and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama have been handed the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers' (NNECL) quality mark for the programmes of support they offer to their care leaver students.

The four new awards bring the total number handed out to 21, with universities of Lincoln, Exeter, Manchester and Nottingham, among previous recipients

The University of Sunderland’s programme has been running for more than a decade and includes support with students’ mental health, help completing their studies and future employment prospects, such as paying for driving lessons.
