In an attempt to increase transparency, proposals put forward in the Department for Education’s business plan for 2011-15 include schools recording the number of full- or part-time teachers per school and their pay and levels of absence.
But Christine Blower, general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said parents should be given access to information about training and qualifications instead.
"Parents are interested in a school’s ability to provide a good education for their children and there is already an abundance of measurements by which a school’s success is judged," she said. "What is important for parents and the wider public to know is that teachers are fully qualified and that they have access to continual professional development to keep ahead of any new educational developments.
