Ukraine: Charities urge UK government to welcome fleeing children and families

A coalition of charities and organisations supporting vulnerable children and families is calling on the government to welcome Ukrainian refugees.

A letter published in The Times, backed by more than 50 organisations including Save the Children, Refugee Council and Amnesty International UK, calls on the Prime Minister to “work with councils across the country, to welcome Ukrainians who need sanctuary.”

Save the Children has warned that 7.5 million children are at risk of physical harm, distress and displacement due to the increase in violence Ukraine.

The UK should lead an international effort to settle refugees on the same scale as the thousands of families from the Balkans resettled during the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s, it states.
