Trustees released a statement thanking him for his contribution during his tenure, which began in May 2005.
The statement said: "Over his time with the charity, Andy has played a major role in helping position UKYP to our wide-ranging partners and stakeholders, as well as securing major platforms for the promotion of our programme of activities."
A spokesman for the trustees said discussions over the future shape of the organisation are ongoing.
He said: "Andy made an important contribution to developing the organisation into the credible voice for children and young people that the charity is now known for.
"As a charitable trust we are busier than ever in putting our time, effort and resources into supporting the young people of the UK. We have important work to do and will continue to work with our partners and stakeholders to protect the organisation's future and the voice of children and young people.
