
In a study that compared the experiences of children and parents in the UK with those in Sweden and Spain, researchers found that key to children’s wellbeing across all three countries was the time they spent with family.
But while in Sweden and Spain family time was identified as being part of the fabric of everyday life, in the UK parents were found to be "obviously struggling" to give children the time they wanted.
While most children in all countries agreed that family time was more important than consumer goods, parents in the UK were more likely to be compelled to continually buy things for their children and themselves.
