Two councils to support 'inadequate' children's services department

2 mins read Ofsted Social Care
Islington Council and Lincolnshire County Council have been appointed by the Department for Education to act as "intervention advisers" at Tower Hamlets in a bid to turn around children's services at the struggling local authority.

A report published in April found that some services at Tower Hamlets Council had "significantly deteriorated" since the last inspection in 2012, with inspectors finding that children had been left in abusive situations for too long.

A direction notice published by the Department for Education states that the two adviser councils, which are both "Partners in Practice" councils that have been identified as beacons of best practice, will provide advice and support to Tower Hamlets on the areas of practice that Ofsted judged to be weak.

They will also carry out periodic reviews every six months to assess service improvements.
