'Inadequate' council granted more time to improve

1 min read Ofsted Social Care
A council where children's services were rated "inadequate" by Ofsted in June has been granted more time to improve.

Bromley Council received the lowest rating across each of the three main inspection areas - child protection, children in care, and leadership - with Ofsted stating that children were being "left in neglectful and abusive situations for too long".

In light of the findings, the Department for Education (DfE) appointed Frankie Sulke, former director of children's services in Lewisham, to lead a review into whether responsibility for services should be removed.

Following publication of the report today, the DfE has appointed a commissioner for children's services in Bromley to oversee progress and report to government by April 2017 on whether the authority should retain responsibility for provision.
