Three-quarters of children's centres employ staff with Qualified Teacher Status, finds survey

1 min read Early Years
More than three-quarters of children's centres in deprived areas have at least one staff member with Qualified Teacher Status, a survey of centre managers has found.

Commissioned by the former Department for Children, School and Families, the report surveyed around 500 children’s centres in the summer and autumn last year.

Conducted by Oxford University and NatCen Social Research, the report focused on centres which opened in the first two phases of the Sure Start programme and are therefore placed in the most disadvantaged areas.

The survey found that 77 per cent of centres had at least one member of staff with Qualified Teacher Status, 57 per cent had staff with the Early Years Foundation Degree, 49 per cent with Early Years Professional Status and 30 per cent with a social work qualification.
