Thousands of teens targeted in summer drinking crackdown

More than 5,000 litres of alcohol were seized from young people during a crackdown on teenage binge drinking this summer.

Between July and September 3,500 teenagers were targeted by the campaign, nearly 2,000 of whom were subsequently directed to support services, according to official figures. The crackdown focussed on 69 priority areas across England where alcohol-related, low-level and youth crime and antisocial behaviour are significant problems.

Children's minister Dawn Primarolo said: "The results of the summer campaign show a success story of local services working together. This has been achieved by services cracking down on young people's drinking and taking tough action to prevent antisocial behaviour. This is testament to the united front of police, children's, health and social services."
