
A report by the Education Policy Institute (EPI) said that while each party has made some proposals that are likely to have a beneficial impact on education outcomes, each also make several pledges that are either not based in evidence, or could have a negative effect.
It said education funding proposals by the Conservatives, whereby an additional £4bn would be provided by 2022, would actually result in a real-terms cut in per-pupil funding of around three per cent over the course of the parliament, which would bring funding to below 2015/16 levels without an indication of how these savings would be made.
