
The research, conducted by Unison and the University and College Union (UCU), found that 93 per cent of colleges have laid off staff in the past two years and 53 per cent are planning to make further redundancies this year.
Support staff were found to be worst hit, absorbing 45 per cent of all job losses, while 42 per cent of staff made redundant worked in teaching and 12 per cent in management posts.
Almost a quarter of colleges admitted they had turned away potential students because of funding cuts and 60 colleges said they are planning to close courses in the near future.
